Today, Beverly’s Pet Resort is a premier pet care destination with an expansive campus that includes nightly boarding, a daycare facility, group play areas, and their signature 4-acre bark park. With a capacity to host 230 overnight guests and 70 daycare pets daily, the resort is massive. Yet, what Beverly’s is truly known for is its personalized, one-on-one pet care options tailored to each dog's needs and the owner's preferences.

Beverly's Pet Resort had been operating on KennelSoft, a software system it used for over 20 years. Although it was getting by on it, this locally installed system limited access and operational flexibility. "I really didn’t have effective access to our system from home," admits Kevin DeTrude. Managing reservations and financials involved manual processes that were time-consuming and inefficient.

Having been one of the first users of Goose co-founder Chris Tilson's initial venture, PetBookings.com, Kevin was familiar with Chris's innovative approach to pet service software. "Chris had the foresight to start building what Goose has become 15 years ago," Kevin notes. Recognizing the potential to modernize his operations with the new Goose operating system, Kevin decided to transition from KennelSoft.

The move wasn't without its hurdles. "After 20 years on the same software, my employees were very resistant," Kevin recalls. Change is never easy, especially when it involves overhauling systems ingrained in daily operations. However, the support from the Goose team made a significant difference.

"I give a lot of credit to Huong and Chris. Sometimes they were dragging us along kicking and screaming, and in other cases holding our hand. I was very impressed with the transition team and the way they guided us through the process," he says.

One of the most impactful changes was gaining 24/7 operational capabilities. Unlike with his on-premise software, Kevin can now access his system from anywhere—even at home. He can monitor his business remotely, pull reports, and troubleshoot issues as needed. Kevin says, “With KennelSoft, I often felt like my hands were tied when I wasn’t physically at the resort. If a customer had a last-minute request or I needed to review financials from home, I had to wait until I was back on-site. That lag wasn’t just inconvenient—it meant we weren’t as responsive to customers as we could have been.”

Goose streamlined operations by automating reservation confirmations and follow-up emails—tasks that were previously handled manually. Kevin explains that before Goose, booking was a two-step process where customers would request a reservation, and the team would have to confirm each one manually. They were working harder than needed and still not providing the best customer experience. "Now, everything is automated. Customers book in real time, and my team gets to spend more time with pets instead of their keyboards," he says.

In addition to 24/7 operations, Goose has revolutionized Beverly's financial oversight and reporting capabilities. "Prior to Goose, we had a very manual system for managing the dollars and cents," Kevin explains.

While the transition has already yielded significant benefits, Kevin is eager to delve deeper into Goose's capabilities. He plans to dig into Goose's revenue management features in 2025 to fully maximize its potential. For now, he is experimenting with the platform, making small, incremental changes to optimize operations further.

He believes that most online booking systems aren't much more than web forms that create unnecessary delays and cause customers to jump through hoops just to book a reservation. "There's a big difference between requesting a booking and making a booking in real time," he emphasizes.
